1946–1964
Baby Boomers
Defined by US Census Bureau — also called Boomers.
The only generation here with an official definition. It is taken straight from the birth-rate record: births jumped in 1946 and fell back in 1965.
Where the edge is disputed
1961–1964. The US Census Bureau counts 1961 to 1964 in the baby boom. Strauss and Howe start their 13th Generation, which is Generation X, in 1961 and put these years there.
How old this cohort is now
Someone born on 1 January 1946, the earliest possible date in this range, is now 80. Someone born on 31 December 1964, the latest, is now 61. Both are worked out from today's date, the day this page was built — for an age that stays current, use the calculator on the relevant year's page.
