What this is
BirthAlmanac is a free reference for what a birth date means: star sign, birthstone, birth flower, weekday, age, generation, Chinese animal and life path number, operated by Inyonitech Solutions (Pty) Ltd. There is no account, no subscription and no payment. Using the site means accepting what is on this page.
What you may do with what is here
Read it, print it, screenshot it, and share a link to it. Print a page for a class or hand it round. None of that needs our permission.
What you may not do is copy the site wholesale — scrape the pages, or reproduce a substantial part of the date, sign, stone or generation tables, in order to publish them elsewhere or build a competing reference from them. A date and its facts are not ours to own; the work of computing them correctly, checking the sources and writing them up is.
What the calculations are, and are not
The astronomy is computed from the real positions of the sun and moon. The moment the sun enters each sign, for every year from 1900 to 2100, comes from a table worked out from VSOP87, a published theory of the planets' motion, agrees with published equinox and solstice times to within a minute, and is shown to the minute in UTC. The Chinese new year comes from new moons computed with published formulae and is checked against published dates.
On a day when the sun changed sign, which sign a birthday belongs to depends on the year and on the time of birth. The date pages say when the crossing fell in each year, and the calculator offers a time-of-birth field to settle it; a birth close to the crossing is only settled as well as the time of birth is known. See the disclaimer for the full statement of what this site does and does not claim, including about astrology, tarot, the Chinese zodiac, numerology and birthstone traditions.
If you find something here that is wrong, write to hello@birthalmanac.com and we will check it and fix it.
Notable births and deaths
Every date page names people born on that day and people who died on it. Each entry is a name, taken from the title of the person's English Wikipedia article; a birth year and, where it applies, a death year; and a short description, checked and corrected by hand where needed. The years and descriptions come from Wikidata, published under CC0. If you would like a name removed, write to hello@birthalmanac.com and it will be taken down.
